Sep 28, 2019  Been working on this for a while, and I plan to do a production run in the near future, as soon as the English patch is finalized. (Credit for the patch goes to TrekkiesUnite118). Posted on February 5, 2020 March 7, 2020 by samson7point1 TrekkiesUnite118’s English translation of the Saturn version of Grandia is moving along at a good clip with just a few outstanding items to be done until it’s considered complete. The most recent official status update from the forum: Fix all the voice synchronization issues.

You mean the technical or gameplay differences? From a technical point of view the original Saturn version is superior - sure, the PSX port is alright, but the Saturn version has a much more stable framerate, better looking battle arenas, nice field water effect, superior sound quality, no texture-warping and better looking in-battle special effects (the really did use the superior 2D Saturn capabilities!). The PSX version, on the other hand, features a bit better looking FMV sequences.I played both the original and the PSX port, and didn't see any noticeable (or barely noticeable) gameplay differences (or I just don't remember them;)).

I guess you should be good using the PS1 guide for the Saturn version. Adding to what Kurasiu said, the PS1 version also offers support for analogue control, and the battle transition animation is arguably better looking and inarguably quite a bit quicker than on the Saturn. On the PS1, the screen swoops in towards your characters, and midway through the swoop, it ripples away to reveal the battle scene, whereas in the Saturn version it goes all the way in, there's a short delay, the screen erases with an effect, and then the battle scene loads from a black screen.I also think the point about battle effects kind of depends on the attack, and I think quite a few definitely look better on the PS1. If you're interested to see some of the changes to those in action, there's a video here:I still think the Saturn version is the better of the two by quite a ways, but I think the PS1 port is pretty good too, and don't think you can go too wrong with either.:). Or RPGs in generalIt's much more of a lack of translated RPGs than RPGs in general. Apart from the translated games, there's Grandia, three Shin Megami Tensei spinoffs, Tengai Makyou The Apocalypse IV, Shiroki Majo, two Lunar games, AnEarth Fantasy Stories, Atelier Marie and Daikoukai Jidai Gaiden, off the top of my head. Then there are the SRPGs like Dragon Force 2, two Shining Force games, Tactics Ogre, Ogre Battle and three Langrisser games.

And there's more out there, the Saturn's Japanese library is incredibly rich. These games are also mostly pretty cheap because of the language barrier.
